Wonder Who I Am?

Hi, I’m Missy. Thanks for visiting Wonder, Friend.

Before I talk about me, me, me, I want to know who you are, too. Comment, send an email, get in touch. It makes my day to hear from you, so don’t be shy. I post here two or three times a week, but you can also find me on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

So here we go with just the facts, ma’am:*

Some Wonder, Friend-related business…

:: Wonder, Friend was was conceived as a place where I could write about life’s questions, big and small. Then we (you, me, the internet) could discuss amongst ourselves (Coffee Talk, anyone?). The site is evolving a bit. Stuff tends to do that. From time-to-time you’ll see things here that don’t necessarily fall under the category of wonderings.

:: I’m okay with broken grammar rules here and there. I start sentences with And, But, and So all the time. But I am not a fan of unnecessary abbreviations, like LOL, SAHM, etc. When texting, I do occasionally abbreviate, but it’s not unusual to get a message from me that reads more like an English composition than a text. Twitter periodically forces my hand and makes me shorten a word here and there. Overall, however, I prefer things spelled out. I’m not 14, people, and I had to look up the following when I was pregnant and obsessed with pregnancy-related message boards: DD, DH, DS, MIL, IMO, IMHO, ROFL… and more. How hard is it to write the whole word? Whew. Tirade over.

:: I’m still figuring out how to blog. There’s a lot of technical stuff I just don’t get – computers are not my thing. And there’s a lot of blogging etiquette that I’m still learning. Stick with me, I’ll get there.

Some personal business…

:: My professional life includes freelance writing and communications, corporate community relations and non-profit work.

:: I once had a job where all women were required to wear pantyhose every day. This job was not in the 1950s. The exception? On Fridays we could wear tennis attire, meaning that if a woman chose to wear a tennis skirt, revealing most of her butt cheeks, that was fine as long as it was Friday. The rest of the week? Full coverage and pantyhose. It was a tennis-related job, by the way. Hence the tennis attire. And no, I don’t play tennis. I have depth-perception issues, making it tough for me to achieve racquet contact with the ball.

:: I’m married and have been for quite some time now. We’re closing in on 15 years. I was a child bride (okay, 23). He’s the best husband and dad on the planet, and for some reason he picked me.

:: I get to spend my days with my two boys, ages 2 (on the blog, we call him “P”) and 5 (this one is “H”). They’re crazy-cute. And just plain crazy.

:: I don’t talk a lot about religion or politics, because I don’t want to alienate people before we get to know each other. If you know me and hate me, then fine. But that doesn’t mean I’ll shy away from topics about which I feel strongly, because the thing is, I’m a grown up and so are you. We can handle some differences, don’t you think? You’ll find I’m never in your face, at least not intentionally; I apologize if it ever appears that way. I have come to the conclusion that I can skirt the topics or I can be a confident adult. You don’t have to agree with me, nor I with you. Sometimes the best friendships (bloggy or real life) are between two people with differing opinions.

:: That said, I’m a Christian and my faith is central to who I am. I’m not, however, ultra-conservative. I have never, ever voted straight ticket and would sooner die than do so. That’s all I’m going to say about that. For now.

Thanks for being here. I’m happy you’re taking the time to hang out with me.

Me. I wish this picture was smaller, but did I mention that I'm clueless about computers? When I figure out how to do so, I'll change it.

*Did anyone else watch Dragnet? The original show. Someday, I’ll show you my Sgt. Joe Friday impersonation. It’s dead on, I tell you.
