How to Play Along

Welcome to Wonder Why Wednesday! Today will serve as a tutorial (sounds so serious – but it’s not. At all.), and as our first official WWW Question. Read on to find out more about this feature of Wonder, Friend, and then at the end of this post you’ll get a chance to join the fun.

What is it?
Every week I will post a question, and more often than not I expect it to be V-E-R-Y light. Nothing too heavy. Just something I wonder about. Sometimes I imagine there won’t even be an answer (at least not a real answer). I’m not necessarily looking for answers, although I welcome them if you have them. I’m just looking for an open dialog on whatever is on our minds.

How do you play along?
You have options:

1. Answer – or try to answer – my question.
2. Post your own question. What’s on your mind this week? Something annoying you? Something you don’t understand? Something you find funny and/or absurd? Post it!

That’s it.

At best, I hope this will start a fun discussion, and possibly even provide fodder for future, more in-depth Wonder, Friend posts.

At the very least it will be an easy way to blow of some mid-week steam and banter around some of the stuff we all wonder about.

Thanks for playing along! Come back every Wednesday. I’ll be here.

Wonder Why Wednesday #1

Why is my child at 11* all day long, but the minute he’s supposed to be in bed he can creep around the house on little whisper feet and suddenly appear as if he teleported to my side?

*Don’t get the 11 reference? I recommend that you Netflix** This is Spinal Tap tonight.

**Can Netflix be a verb?

So I went hmmmmmmmmmmmm for about three minutes while I did my little research and then “pop” the light bulb lit up and I followed your question!! Yeah I have made progress! So why is it that they are at *11 all day and then at night just simply move about without being heard . . . well children are part alien and we all know that aliens run on batteries!! Fully charged in the morning and then they wear the battery down all day long until finally they lie still and then the battery just charges right up again!! Tip: To keep the alien in bed prior to the battery being worn down duct tape the little alien to its bed!

Not sure how this works for kids but it sure works for cats…ever noticed how a cat can sound like a buffalo or a thought depending on its intent? Perhaps kids & cats have some wavelength in common.

  3. Fun! My kids always scare the pants out of me. Like I’ll think they’re asleep and I’ll walk down the hall and there one will be. GAH!

Hi everyone – thanks for the comments & questions. So glad to know I’m not alone in being scared to death by my own children (and cats!). I’m also a fan of being startled awake by a little face centimeters from my own.

Thanks for playing along today! See you next week?!

  4. Ok I don’t have any children yet, but this is is seriously freaking me out!! LOL!

  5. I can’t really speak to the child thing, as I have none. BUT I say absolutely Netflix is a verb. Like google! I pretty much turn all nouns into either a verb or adjective. As in “I facebooked him” or “You look so Sex and the City.”

  6. I am a little late, but isn’t this true in everyone’s house that has kiddos? My guess is that during the day they are overstimulated and entertained by everything around them…TV, radio, video games. They are constantly entertained during the day. Then, when their cute little heads hit the pillow and there is nothing to keep their attention, their brains don’t quite know what to do. They don’t dream of sleep like we do….but soon enough they will be teenagers and we can’t drag their hinies out of slumber! :) love your site, Missy!

  7. Thanks for stopping by for SITS Day (last week)!

I like the comment above me…we have the same issue.

Looks like I’ll have to Netflix tonight.
